A Sophisticated Seasonal Transformation in Melbourne’s CBD
In 2021, The Festive Store was engaged to deliver a stunning suite of commercial Christmas decorations at 600 Bourke Street, a prominent office building located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. The foyer of this high-traffic commercial space had recently undergone a major refurbishment, and the team behind Bourke Place, Mirvac and AMP Capital, were looking to elevate the refreshed environment with a festive installation that would feel premium, modern, and universally appealing to the building’s diverse mix of tenants and visitors.
The brief called for a refined and impactful seasonal display, with a particular focus on ensuring visibility from multiple levels and vantage points within the expansive foyer. The goal was clear: to create commercial Christmas décor that would enhance the elegant architecture while delivering a joyful festive atmosphere throughout the space. Our response was a tailored design solution rooted in high-end aesthetics, clever spatial planning, and the strategic use of modern lighting and structural elements.
A Modern Twist on Traditional Christmas Elegance
For this project, the chosen theme was “Charm”—a beautifully balanced design concept that brought together traditional Christmas gold with a fresh, modern accent of crisp white. This blend allowed us to pay homage to the timeless elegance of classic holiday styling while injecting a contemporary edge that felt right at home in a sleek, refurbished corporate environment.
Instead of traditional pine-style trees, we opted for modern cone-style commercial Christmas trees, a deliberate design decision that introduced sculptural sophistication to the display. These cone trees offered clean lines and a refined silhouette, aligning seamlessly with the contemporary design of the Bourke Street foyer. Each tree was mounted on a custom gold base, further enhancing its visual prominence and turning each one into a standalone feature. These trees were carefully distributed throughout the foyer to provide maximum impact across the various levels and to draw the eye upward and across the space.
Designing for a Multi-Level CBD Foyer
The foyer at 600 Bourke Street presents a unique architectural layout, featuring a central market hall with built-in spaces, multiple levels, and elevator access. This complexity required a thoughtful approach to decoration placement to ensure that the festive elements could be experienced from every angle—whether entering from Bourke Street, viewing from the mezzanine, or moving between floors via the lifts.
To meet this challenge, our team developed a layout strategy that emphasized sightlines, symmetry, and elevation. Trees and decorations were arranged with strategic spacing to create visual rhythm and to ensure that the Christmas spirit was felt throughout the entire atrium. By avoiding crowding and allowing each piece to “breathe,” we respected the building’s modern design while still delivering a sense of holiday warmth and abundance.
LED Baubles – The Highlight of the Display
A key focal point of the 600 Bourke Street installation was the inclusion of oversized LED bauble shapes—a trio of illuminated sculptures in sizes 1.2m and 80cm. Positioned near the building’s main entry, these glowing baubles greeted visitors with a warm and elegant welcome, instantly capturing attention as people walked in from bustling Bourke Street, Melbourne.
This grouping of LED baubles served as a visual anchor for the display, drawing the eye and setting the festive tone from the very first step inside. Their soft, glowing light created a sense of calm and celebration, bridging the gap between modern minimalism and holiday tradition. The baubles also photographed beautifully, making them a popular feature among tenants and guests who shared images across social media and internal company channels.
Sustainable and Flexible Christmas Décor Solutions
One of the major advantages of working with The Festive Store is our seasonal rental model, which allows corporate clients like Mirvac and AMP Capital to enjoy bespoke, trend-driven commercial Christmas decorations without the long-term commitment of purchasing, storing, or maintaining their own inventory.
At 600 Bourke Street, the rented Christmas décor allowed the client to fully embrace the latest seasonal colour palette and design innovations without any of the overhead or risk. Our full-service offering included everything from initial concept development and design mockups to installation, on-site styling, and post-season dismantling.
This flexible approach ensures a fresh and on-trend festive environment year after year—one that evolves alongside the tastes of the building’s occupants and the broader visual landscape of Melbourne’s CBD Christmas decorations.
Delivering Commercial Christmas Impact in the Heart of Melbourne
The completed installation at 600 Bourke Street was a true showcase of what can be achieved when commercial Christmas décor is executed with vision, strategy, and attention to detail. The fusion of contemporary cone trees, gold and white colour accents, and eye-catching LED lighting created a welcoming and elevated atmosphere that resonated with everyone who entered the space.
By taking a holistic approach to the space’s layout and architecture, we ensured the decorations were visible, cohesive, and memorable—turning the foyer into a festive destination and conversation piece for tenants, employees, and visitors alike.
