A neon Christmas may sound odd but surprisingly it’s predicted to be trending this year. If you’re someone that fancies a burst of vibrant colour and a funky setting, fluorescent baubles and coloured tinsel might be the style for you.
According to Etsy, 2021 saw an increase in individual expressions of Christmas, with Etsy searches for custom or personalised neon signs rise by 228 percent. The most popular search was for a “Merry Christmas” retro-inspired sign, and there’s no doubt that these searches will be popular again in 2022. It seems the idea is to bring your own energy and expression when styling your Christmas, without being afraid to steer away from the traditional colours. “There’s no right or wrong way to celebrate the season,” explains Etsy’s trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson, as “trying an alternative colour scheme can be a great way to stay true to your year-round aesthetic when decorating”.
If you’re still feeling intimidated by the sound of a neon theme, think a dash of neon paint on acorns or neon dipped ombré candle sticks. Or if you want to go bigger, think multi-coloured baubles on a white tree, sparkly tassel, disco ball ornaments, rainbow stockings, confetti, pom poms and neon wall lights – the more the merrier!
Especially now that we are transitioning back to buzzing celebrations, it seems everyone wants to make up for the missed opportunities by bringing in the festivities with plenty of bold and vibrant colours. So embrace the 80s retro style for your Christmas this year because it is sure to spark joy and bring a smile to your face.
